Playa Copal located in the bay called Bahia Salinas is on the north pacific coast in the Guanacaste province. A long drive from San Jose, you can get internal flights to regional airports.
The seasonal trade winds come with the dry season. At the beginning of the season (November) the wind starts blowing at around 8am in the morning and blows until early afternoon. By the end of December it can be blowing 24/7. They start from about 15 knots in November and build to 25-30 knots in December-January. It can blow over 40 knots here so bring a small kite! The direction is almost a perfect side-shore with a starboard tack (wind over your right shoulder) on the way out, port tack back to the beach.
This is the sunniest and driest side of Costa Rica. Around this bay there are very beautiful and little-unknown beaches. The bay is also home to an island with a white beach and turquoise water, famous because it is an important nesting spot for birds. In front of the kite beach you can also enjoy half mile of reef with complete flat water.
