Very easy to find. Just head into the Port Macquarie CBD and park at the northern end of Short street. There is a large grassed area for rigging up if you are a windsurfer. Launch off the boat ramp or sand. For Kiteboarders it is better to launch from the beach on Pelican Island which is accessible by boat,swimming or walking at low tide.
Best in summer Nov-Feb when the North Easterly winds blow nearly every afternoon. Can also be sailed in a westerly. Southerly winds tend to be too gusty due to large buildings in the way.
Great spot for beginers because even at high tide you can still touch the bottom in some areas. Can also be sailed/kited at low tide north of the sandbar where there is deeper water.
