Access

From Central Hong Kong by Ferry, take Ferry Pier Number 5 to Mui Wo (fast ot slow ferry available). Then, in Mui Wo take a bus to Cheung Sha beach (lower). Take Bus number 1, 2, 3 or 4. It takes roughly 20 min to get there. Ask the driver to stop at Cheung Sha. On the beach, when facing the sea, on your left a windsurfing club (Long Coast Seasports) where you can rent good gear. Nice people and good ambiance. On the right a South African restaurant to chill out after a good session (restaurant gets a bit crowded on Sunday).

more infosIn summer (May-Sep) the main wind direction comes from South West, then sea is a bit choppy. When Typhoon hits HK or come closer to the island, you can expect strong wind and swell good for bump and jump. In summer, you have to use sails from 6.5 to 7.8. In winter, from October to April, wind usually blows North- North East and comes down from the mountain. Then, a venturi effects double the strength and you can get easily 30 knots. We have been sailing in winter with 4.5 and even 3.7. Very good fun as the sea is very flat so ideal conditions for speed and slalom. Very good ambiance on the water with locals and foreign windsurfers.

Additional Infos

To me, one of the best spot in HK for windsurfing, especially in winter. The team who runs the windsurfing club is really nice and always happy to give you some hints about the spot. The beach is sometimes used for Kite surfing as well.
