Ponta Preta is best known as a heavy surf spot; more recently with strong offshore (and cross-offshore) winds also quite typical, it has become a testing ground for experienced wind and kite surfers. Given large powerful groundswells, the short distance to a rocky shoreline and side off winds is a technical launch and potentially hazardous riding area. There has been at least one fatality here on the rocks.
